MVDr. Jiří Beránek, PhD. (Czech Republic)

Jiří graduated from the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno (1985). In 2012 he received his Ph.D. degree after defending his thesis „Occurrence, diagnosis and management of chronic superficial keratitis in German Shepherds in the Czech Republic in relation to thyroid function“. He completed professional visits and internships in Switzerland, USA, Italy and France. He collaborated on clinical studies with ciclosporin with the Universities of Zurich and Vienna. He has published and lectured both in Czech Republic and abroad, and has received numerous awards (including the Hlávka Prize in 2000). He regularly participates in professional seminars and conferences of the EFTA, ECVO,ESVO and EESVO. In 2020 he graduated from the Basic Science Course, UC Davis, USA. He is the chairman of hereditary eye disease assessors for the Czech Republic – Czech Veterinary Chamber, cooperates with the Czech-Moravian Cynological Union and 21 breeding clubs on genetic depistasis of eye diseases and on remedial projects in elimination of these diseases. Member of the ESVO (European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmologists) board as past president, responsible for online education. Since 1991 he has been working at the veterinary clinic in Pardubice and cooperates externally with the Poděbradská Clinic in Prague and the Vedilab Clinic in Pilsen.
